He led investments in Arbortext (acquired by PTC), Cadis (Aspect Development), Cast Iron Systems (IBM), Digital Persona, LogLogic (TIBCO), ONI Systems (IPO in 2000), Portal Software (IPO in 1999), Torrent Networking (Ericsson), and Verisign (IPO in 1997) among others. In 1991, he co-founded AT&T Ventures where he led investments in BBN Planet (Verizon), Classic Sports Network (now ESPN Classic), Multex (IPO in 1999), Redgate Communications (AOL), and Spectrum HoloByte (Microprose/Hasbro). In 1995, Alessandro became a partner at Invesco Private Capital. Before working as a venture capitalist, Alessandro spent several years developing compilers in Fortran, co-founded the AT&T-backed graphics supercomputing business Pixel Machines, and worked as director of Strategic Partnerships for AT&T Computer Systems. Alessandro received an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1985. He received an MS and BS in Computer Science from Columbia University in 1982 and 1979, respectively.
